Conditions Affecting K Availability
- Continuously cropped soil
- Dry weather, poor drainage and compaction are factors that inhibit root growth and therefore reduce the availability of K.
- Soil low in organic matter
- Soil without balanced fertilizer programme
- Drought condition
- Heavy rain – prolonged period
- Soils depleted with P and Mo
- High levels of Ca and/or Mg can limit K uptake in some soils
