Deficiency Symptoms
Interveinal chlorosis occurs in lower leaves, if deficiency becomes excess interveinal area appears reddish. Finally leaf falls off.
Conditions Affecting Mg Availability
- Sandy acid soil with pH >6 – particularly in High rainfall area
- Coarsed texture soil in humid condition
- Cold wet condition
- Soils that are acidic and/or high in organic matter, highly leached soils with low CEC and calcareous soils
- Excess levels of other cations such as K, Ca, and N can further restrict Mg availability
- Soil with repeated green manuring
